Jesus touches and heals a leper
[edit | edit source]Interpretation by Victor Porton; not presented as scholarly consensus.
Matthew 8:2–3 describes Jesus touching a man with leprosy and cleansing him immediately.
The author compares this episode with the rules on ritual impurity in Leviticus 13:45–46 and 5:3. In his interpretation, Jesus' touch is exceptional because the person is immediately healed, and thus is no longer a leper. This is the author's theological reading of the relationship between the Gospel account and Mosaic law.
